Calculate your grade and gpa

I created this website to help students be able to calculate their possible grades and their gpa.

Materials Needed:

- A calculator (found below)

- Your previously calculated grades and the number of points they're worth.

- Your future assignments and the points they're worth.

- For gpa: the number of classes you've been in before, and the grades you got in those classes.

For unweighted grades:

Step 1:

Figure out how many points you have and how many points total you can get.

Step 2:

Divide the number of points you have by the number of points you can get.

Step 3:

Multiply the number you get by 100, this is your percent grade in the class.

Example:

For these assignments:

Assignment 1: 75/100

Assignment 2: 70/100

Assignment 3: 25/100

Assignment 4: 37/100

Assignment 5: 91/100

You would have a total possible number of points of 500 (5 assignments times 100 points per assignment)

Add all the points you got up:

75+70+25+37+91 = 198

Divide your points by the total points possible:

298/500 = .596

Multiply that number by 100:

0.596*100 = 59.59 | This is your grade in the class.

What letter grade you get for that percent in the class depends on what percentage refers to what grade at your school. In general, or at my school a 59.59%, would give you a 'D' grade.

For weighted grades:

Step 1:

Figure out how many points you have for each assignment, and the weight of that assignment. (Also could be a list of assignments is weighted for 70% of your grade)

Step 2:

Divide the number of points you have by the number of points you can get per each weighted group and multiply them by their weight in your grade.

Ex.

Assignment 1-10: total points gained - 506/600; weighted 30% of your grade

Assignment 11-15: total points gained - 76/100; weighted 70% of your grade

You would calculate 506/600 and multiply it by .3 and calculate 76/100 and multiply it by .7

Step 3:

Add the weighted grades together.

Step 4:

Multiply the number you get by 100, this is your percent grade in the class.

Example:

For these assignments:

Formative (everyday assignments, quizzes, etc.): 30% of your grade

Assignment 1: 82/100

Assignment 2: 95/100

Assignment 3: 59/100

Assignment 4: 58/100

Assignment 5: 89/100

Assignment 6: 68/100

Assignment 7: 61/100

Assignment 8: 68/100

Assignment 9: 77/100

Assignment 10: 66/100

(723/1000 formative points)

Summative (test, exams, etc.): 70% of your grade

Assignment 11: 65/100

Assignment 12: 93/100

Assignment 13: 66/100

Assignment 14: 75/100

Assignment 15: 88/100

(377/500 summative points)

Divide 723/1000 for formative points percent earned: 723/1000 = 0.723

Divide 387/500 for summative points percent earned: 387/500 = 0.774

Multiply the percent you have for each section, by the percent of your grade it is worth.

0.732*0.3 = 0.2169

0.774*0.7 = 0.5418

Add your two numbers together

0.2169+0.5418 = 0.7587

Multiply by 100 and you have your grade for the class

0.7587*100 = 75.87

What letter grade you get for that percent in the class depends on what percentage refers to what grade at your school. In general, or at my school a 75.87%, would give you a 'C' grade.
